Tornello, recently retired Director of Charlottesville High School
Band- 27 year
Virginia Honor Band, member of V.B.O.D.A. Honor Band Hall of Fame and
National Sousa Foundation "Legion of Honor" Mr. Tornello was only
the
second band director at Charlottesville High School since 1942 and
retired after his 37th year at CHS as of June 30, 2009. His bands
appeared at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Rose Parade.
Music- Brass & Woodwinds: Jeff Bryant, Principal at Greenbrier East High School, Lewisburg WV. Jeff Bryant came to Greenbrier East in 1980 to become the school's Director of Bands. Over the next 16 years, the Spartan Marching Band evolved into the 'Pride of Eastern Greenbrier County.' The Greenbrier East band won more West Virginia Governor's Cup State Championships than any school in the state, while performing at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the Orange Bowl in Miami, Bill Clinton's 1993 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, and at Pittsburgh Steelers games at Three Rivers Stadium. In 1996, the Spartan Marching Band was ranked 18th nationally at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Mr. Bryant served as assistant principal for five years, before becoming Principal in 2001. Jeff holds a bachelors degree in music from Radford University and a Masters from Berklee School of Music in Boston. He is also a trumpet player in a combo at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs WV, and Vice President of the local chapter of the American Federation of Musicians.
Music- Percussion: Larry Correll, band director at
J. L. Simpson Middle School in Loudoun County VA. He is
instrumental chairman of VMEA district 16, and judged at the VBODA
District 5 Concert Festival in March 2009. He is Dean of the
Winchester chapter of the American Guild of Organists and organist at
First Baptist Church, Winchester VA. As a professional percussionist he
has worked with bands and drum/bugle corps in Texas, Virginia and other
states.
Marching: David Perry, Harrisonburg VA.
Mr. Perry, a bassoonist and retired band direcor, has been band
director at Wayne County High School in Wayne County WV, Wilson
Memorial High School in Fishersville VA, Stuarts Draft Middle
School
in Stuarts Draft VA, Wilson Middle School in Fishersville VA, and
choral director at Fort Defiance High School in Fort Defiance,
VA. As
a high school director he won his division at the Stonewall Showcase
and earned superior ratings at district and state band events.
Guard/Auxiliaries: Sharon Posey is the
director at Thomas Harrison Middle School in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
She has taught both at the middle school and high school level for
twenty-seven years. She is a graduate of West Chester University, West
Chester, Pennsylvania. Sharon is also active as an adjudicator and
clinician along the East Coast. She has taught as a clinician for James
Madison University, Middle Tennessee State University, West Chester
University,United Music Enterprises, Mid Atlantic Band Camps and at
various high schools in seven states. Sharon has judged marching band
contests in North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Her professional organizations include Virginia Music Educators
Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, Music
Educators National Conference, Tau Beta Sigma Music Sorority, and Zeta
Tau Alpha. Sharon is also assistant director and playing member of the
Harrisonburg/Rockingham Concert Band and playing member of Just Jazzin’
- a big band jazz group in Harrisonburg, Virgina.
Drum Major: Don Williams, Principal of Aylor
Middle School, Stephens City VA. Don Received his Bachelor of
Music Education degree from Shenandoah College and conservatory of
Music in 1979 and his Master of Music Education from JMU in 1980. He
was band director at Frederick County Middle School 1980-81, at James
Wood High School 1981-89, and at Christiansburg High School
1989-93. He received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in
Educational Administation in 1989 and became Asst. Principal at Auburn
Middle and High School in 1993. He moved back to Frederick County
as Assistant Principal and then Principal at Senseny Road Elementary
School in 1996 and has been Principal Robert E. Aylor Middle School
since 2000. Don has judged a number of times at the Stonewall
Showcase of Bands.
